The Cyberdyne Systems Series 5000 Terminator, or simply T-5000, is an advanced model Terminator series produced by Skynet in 2029 during the period shortly before the final battle. It was directly observed that, during the final confrontation, Skynet itself transferred its consciousness into a T-5000 unit to survive and infect John Connor, before turning him into a T-3000 and killing his squad from Tech-Com. The T-5000 possesses the ability to infect human beings with nano-robotic that recodes their DNA at the cellular level, transforming them into T-3000 cyborgs.

Alex, is the physical embodiment of Skynet, housed in a T-5000 Terminator that infiltrates the Resistance unit Tech-Com. After the Operation Chrono in the Time Displacement Chamber, Alex attacked John Connor from behind when he was seeing Kyle Reese off, turning John Connor into a T-3000 Infiltrator before killing everyone present.

Later, or earlier in 2017, when the Genisys Program started becoming whole, Alex's image is used as one of the the hologram to represent Skynet itself in Cyberdyne Systems Headquarter.

Behind the Scenes

• Prior to the film's release, Matt Smith's role was kept entirely secret other than the fact that he was playing someone with a strong connection to John Connor. In several source, including Entertainment Weekly, Alex is called "The Secret" and referred as a "close ally" of John Connor. Ironically, this is true in someway as Alex transforms John into his own herald to ensure its own existence.
